Elegant Open Kitchen/Living Space
This project started with the client asking us to bring some warmth into their spacious home. The larger areas needed some more character and functionality.
In the living room/foyer area, we brightened up the area by incorporating more lighting and adding new color, all of which gave the woodwork more pop. We also added trim work to the walls and added box beams to the ceiling. Finally, we redesigned the built-ins by the fireplace, giving the client a place to display all their family photos and heirlooms.
Kitchen & Hearth Room:
The client wanted to turn the kitchen and hearth area into a more functional space where they could host larger family gatherings. We started by removing the old kitchen island and designed a custom 6’ x 10’ island that is functional on all four sides. The raised area in the center of the island has drawers for additional storage with a custom-made wood top , which adds to the warmth of the room.
We painted and glazed the existing Vent-A-Hood cabinetry to break up the stained kitchen cabinets and give the space more character. We added the same paint and the glaze to the island so that it would match. and also received a custom-made wood top to continue the theme of warm and natural materials.
In the hearth room, we wrapped the existing fireplace in cedar planks and stained it along with the limestone fireplace to give them both a more aged look. We added more woodwork and color to the built-ins on either side of the fireplace to bring more warmth to the room. The 12’ long dining table was custom built using pine timber for the legs and base and wood from an old vinegar vat for the custom table top.
Finally, we turned the screened-in porch into a heated area. We opened it up using cedar beams to create cozy fireplace nook. The client loves using this space to relax and gather with close friends and family.
